WRSystems excels in providing technical staff augmentation and technical project management outsourcing support services in all areas of Long Range Navigation (LORAN) system support and upgrades.
U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) LORAN Consolidated Control System (LCCS).
The USCG
is the world's pioneer and specialist in Long Range Navigation (LORAN)
and is tasked with operating and maintaining the U.S. LORAN-C Radio
Navigation service to meet the needs of air, land, and marine users.
LORAN-C is a component of the nation's critical infrastructure, the
National Air Space System, and is a safety-of-life-at-sea (SOLAS)
approved radio navigation system.

| The Loran Consolidated
Control System (LCCS) was created to serve as a single system capable
of performing all of the functions of 4 legacy control computers by
incorporating all control functions for multiple Loran-C chains on
a single workstation. |
WRSystems
personnel have been integral to the design,
development, testing, evaluation, and fielding of equipment, systems,
and facilities related to LORAN-C Control Centers, as well as the
operation of the Centers. Based on our extensive experience with LORAN-C,
the USCG Electronics Engineering Center selected WRSystems to assist
in the design and development of a replacement system for the current
suite of equipment used at the six existing North American LORAN-C
Control Stations. The LORAN-C Consolidated Control System (LCCS) was
developed to reduce the required amount of staffing, logistics support,
and training necessary to operate the LORAN-C Radio Navigation Control
System and serve as a single computer system capable of performing
all of the functions of four legacy control computers. The LCCS design
goal was to provide real-time command and control of the LORAN System,
and includes interfaces with 66 stations and sites in CONUS, Alaska,
Canada, and Russia. The LCCS reduced the typical command and control
footprint from almost 600 square feet to less than 25 square feet.
The LCCS also allowed the USCG to replace six existing systems, move
39 staff from support to front line operations, and improve command
and control capabilities fivefold.
WRSystems developed LCCS in accordance with military standards and
performed the detailed design and analysis required to implement the
hardware, software, interface, and communications. Using a full X-Windows,
GUI user interface with touch screens, on-screen strip chart recording,
and other graphical diagnostics, WRSystems
delivered a real-time LORAN System that achieved a major upgrade of
functionality using state-of-the-art technology.
LCCS has been extremely successful, resulting in decreased costs,
increased efficiency, and reduced maintenance for the "World's Premier
Radio Navigation System." LCCS has also provided the USCG with millions
of dollars annually in reinvestment opportunities. Because of our
participation in this project, the USCG/WRSystems
Team won the Secretary of Transportation's "Team Award." |
